District Assessments

  • Otis-Lennon School Ability Test

The OLSAT is a nationally standardized, norm referenced, group administered assessment that provides information about your child as a learner. The OLSAT measures cognitive abilities that relate to a student's academic success in school. By assessing a student's verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative ability, OLSAT supplies educators with valuable information to enhance the insights gained from traditional achievement tests. The Gloucester City School District uses this test as one of many screening tools for the pull out option of the Gifted and Talented Program that begins in grade 3.

  • ACCESS and Alternate ACCESS for ELLs

ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment administered to Kindergarten through 12th-grade students who have been identified as English language learners (ELLs). It is given annually in WIDA Consortium member states to monitor students' progress in acquiring academic English.  Additional information can be found at: https://wida.wisc.edu/memberships/consortium/nj

  • Oral Running Records

This reading assessment is used to determine student independent and instructional reading levels for students in grades K-5. This one-on-one assessment provides teachers with valuable information for core and small group reading instruction.  As a part of this assessment, your child is asked to read a short text.  While your student reads, the teacher makes notes of his or her accuracy and fluency. After reading, the teacher and student will have a comprehension conversation. The student will be asked questions and key understandings will be noted.

  • Linkit! Benchmarks

The Linkit! Benchmarks are standards-aligned formative assessments, given to students in grades 1-12. Note: Grade 1 is only assessed in the Spring. They enable staff to monitor the students' progress towards mastery of end-of-grade-level content standards. They assist staff with planning for differentiation and pacing for the school year. Each of the three Linkit! assessments measure ALL of the content standards for that grade level. Please take that into consideration for Form A and B. The goal of the assessments is to monitor student progress as instruction is taking place during the course of the school year.
