• For individuals in the educational field, professional development is critical. Professional development provides the skills and knowledge an individual needs to optimize their personal and professional growth. The opportunities involved in teacher professional development can range from workshops to an entire semester of an academic course.  An individual can participate in professional development activities on his/her own or take advantage of the activities offered by the school district. A primary advantage of participating in district-based professional development is the opportunity to learn and develop leadership abilities or specific task skills. This development is an extensive and collaborative process.

Some examples of opportunities for professional development available to staff are:

    District In-service sessions

Lion Hour-sessions offered before/after school on campus

AVID In-house training and/or Summer Institute Attendance

    AP Summer Institute Sessions

Summer PD sessions offered in District

Attending an outside professional development session during the school year or summer (requires permission in advance from principal/Assistant Superintendent)

Enrolling in a college/university course (requires permission in advance from principal/superintendent)
